Department Diversity and Inclusion Statement

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology believes that diversity and respect for human differences is a substrate for innovation and scientific progress. We strive to cultivate an inclusive, respectful working and learning environment that prepares our students for a career in a global and multicultural society and our faculty and staff to enjoy success in that society.

We strive to advance social equality and empower individuals to explore and appreciate their unique attributes and life experiences. We seek to create, promote, and sustain a sense of belonging in an environment where the inherent worth and dignity of all people is welcome and celebrated. We recognize that striving for inclusion brings unity for and among members of the department and beyond.

In the pursuit of creating and maintaining such a community, we will strive to:

  • recruit and maintain a diverse and inclusive faculty, student, and staff community where teaching, learning, and living occurs in an atmosphere of mutual respect in pursuit of excellence.
  • create a physical space and environment as well as a cultural climate that is characterized by sensitivity to and support of diversity and inclusion.
  • develop with our faculty, students, and staff individualized career development plans and then, to the extent possible, provide the tools to achieve their career goals.
